Kirkstall Brewery Sustainability Statement
“Kirkstall Brewery takes numerous measures to ensure sustainability throughout its production, supply chain and retail estate. The brewery itself minimises the use of single-use or one-way containers and packaging wherever possible, instead focusing on reusable kegs and casks and ‘endlessly recyclable’ aluminium cans.
Since 2011, Kirkstall has distributed the vast majority of its beer locally, minimising carbon footprint. The pub side of our business is focused on celebrating what is great locally. Over 90% of our products come from local suppliers – and most of our pubs are less than 4 miles away.
We actively work with suppliers and service providers with strong environmental credentials, such as Forge Recycling, a carbon neutral business who send zero waste to landfill, and Jude’s, the first carbon negative ice cream company.
Kirkstall Brewery is also seen as an active protector of historic buildings in the region, including two Grade-II listed pubs, and for our riverside pub, we have taken several measures to help preserve the local protected area for wildlife, in which mink, deer, bats and amphibians thrive.
For the future, we are committed to improving the energy and water efficiency of our production facilities, including measures to achieve carbon recapture and generating solar energy at the brewery site.”
